Mission Statement

Enrich, educate, and entertain our audience.
Preserve and promote choral music of the highest quality.
Recruit local talent and develop musicianship.
Provide a community of fellowship for all associated with the organization.

SJSC is comprised of local volunteer singers who annually present a series of concerts that are dedicated to bringing to life large choral works, both old and new, that typically require orchestral accompaniment. Performing a fabulous piece of music for our community is what inspires and energizes us; as we are galvanized and rejuvenated by performing, we hope and believe that our audiences are lifted up and moved by experiencing the magic of a live choral concert.
Singers receive instruction in music history and theory, and singing technique from the Artistic Director during weekly rehearsals – as well as learning the repertoire. Many of SJSC’s members have sung in the choir for over ten years, and some for much longer. This has allowed the development of extensive networks of friendship and knowledge about each other.

SJSC’s repertoire is drawn from the canon of choral masterworks, including music written hundreds of years ago as well as contemporary pieces. It includes works that are rarely performed, such as Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, or Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, and works that are little known, such as Johann Hummel’s Mass in D. SJSC is proud to present, and sometimes premieres the works of local composers, helping to support the vibrant community of musicians in our area. Debut concerts have included works by South Bay composers Craig Bohmler, Dale Victorine, Sondra Clark, and Henry Mollicone. We regularly present free community concerts, and collaborate with other local musical groups.

SJSC happily represents the City of San José and the South Bay area in national and international tours that take place every two to four years during the summer.
